A beginner's guide by Danielle LaFleur
Record a Skill.
There is a task you do every single week that never changes. Now you can do it one last time. Hit record in Claude, do the job while you say your thinking out loud, and Claude turns that one run into a skill it repeats for you.
How It Works
- Open the Claude desktop app and start Cowork.
- Hit the + button and choose Record a skill.
- Do the task the way you always do it. The clicks, the typing, the files.
- Say why you do each step, out loud, as you go. Your reasoning is what makes the skill smart.
- Stop recording, review what Claude wrote down, and test it once.
- Run it whenever you want, or put it on a schedule.
What To Record
Repetitive, rule-based work: weekly reports, file cleanup, data tidying, invoice filing. Skip judgment calls that change every time, and never record with sensitive information on your screen.
What You Need
The Claude desktop app on a Mac (latest version), a paid plan (Pro, Max, or Team), and screen recording and accessibility permissions.
